I was pretty pissed off at the orders not getting filled. but I rarely trade FNMA. I did when it was at .29. and what gets me, is when it was that low, there was "no trouble" getting in/out of it. but now with yesterday getting 750m in volume...they (eTrade) claim it's not their fault. LMAO

aahepp:     debit spreads are when you buy @ 1 striek price and you sell the next strike price higher (call) or lower (put) resulting in the transaction beting a debit to your account.

aahepp:     ok.....that makes more sense. those are debit spreads. When you first typed out the call side you sell the 455 and buy the 460

imartic:     overall amount that I make is not as high but it has more saftey behind it

aahepp:     The trade you placed (overall) in the way that security is trading is the put debit going to be a total loss. And the call credit spread you are going to have to defend in the coming weeks

imartic:     this primarly working with stocks that flactuate a lot

aahepp:     Granted a lot cheaper if and only if you was going for assignement. If you was to play the directional only then you could sell out of that position for more then what you would of with the debit spread on a percentage basis

imartic:     then it will alow to get read of it as it goes in your favor

imartic:     and if you buy something that expiresin a long run like a month or two

imartic:     because you cover both ends

aahepp:     So how is that less risky.

imartic:     than you dont make as much but its still a lot cheaper

imartic:     I agree but lets just say it goes in your favor

imartic:     a put at ... @ 1.25 and a selll at .... @ 1.50 would only cost you 500 versus 1250

aahepp:     Its no where near safer. It is still a directional trade, that can expire worthless.

imartic:     and safer too

imartic:     but at the same time its a lot cheaper

aahepp:     Like with your put position, if it does trade down that low, then you have a MAX profit off 500 (if you bought 1 contract)

aahepp:     if you are doing credit spreads then yes. If you are doing debit spreads then you are limiting your amount of profit while lessenign the cost of the long options purschase

aahepp:     AAPL is one of them we day trade or swing at best due to how that thing moves. Like I currently have the 455s I bought on Friday. I will exit that position tomorrow or Wednesday.

aahepp:     cause you have to think. at the end of the day with any security you still own it. But when an option expires you own nothing.

aahepp:     Options are ways to make alot of money, but there is a lot more risk in them as well

imartic:     that its good to always buy a put and call

imartic:     I have been thought buy someone who makes several thousand dollars per month just in option

aahepp:     Now if you wanted to protect that position from falling below your purchase price then you could buy the put on it to protect that position

aahepp:     when you buy a call or put that is considered a long position. And when you sell calls or puts they call that a short position.

aahepp:     No. Long position by buying the security and then the short position by selling the calls. Not short the security. When you sell calls or puts they call that position short.

imartic:     so you are basically getting a put and call

aahepp:     Covered calls is an easy way to have a position pay for itself

aahepp:     Or hold the security collect the premium and at the start of the new week sell that week ITM calls

imartic:     Im doing a paper trade right now with options
